Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki Steps Down and Neil Mohan to Replace Her

Susan Wojcicki, Youtube's CEO of nine years, stepped down from her role on Thursday and will be replaced by Indian-American Neil Mohan who is Youtube's Chief Product Officer.

In an email sent out to Youtube employees, Wojcicki stated "I’ve decided to step back from my role as the head of YouTube and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I'm passionate about."

Wojcicki was an integral part of Google's founding as she rented out her Silicon Valley garage to co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998. She joined the company as one of its first employees in 1999. Wojcicki is well-reputed for having operated such a huge business in a male-dominated tech industry.  Under her leadership, YouTube became a financial success with ad revenue totalling $29 billion in 2022.

Wojcicki and Mohan have worked very closely on Google's display advertising business and Mohan has been Wojcicki's No.2 at YouTube since 2015; now he will take on her role as YouTube's CEO.
