Spain Defeats France to Win Olympic Gold in Men's Soccer

Spain clinched victory in a thrilling Olympic men’s soccer final, overcoming France 5-3 in extra time at the Parc des Princes.

The win marks a triumphant summer for Spanish football, as the U-23 team follows in the footsteps of the senior squad, who won the European Championships in July.

Spain’s resilience was on full display after falling behind to an early goal by France's Enzo Millot. However, a stunning three-goal surge within 10 first-half minutes, featuring a brace from Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez and a free-kick from Villarreal’s Alex Baena, turned the tide in Spain’s favor.

France mounted a late comeback, equalizing through Jean-Philippe Mateta's penalty in added time, which forced the game into extra time. Despite the pressure, Spain regained control with substitute Sergio Camello’s goal, followed by a late fifth goal to seal the victory.

Goalkeeper Arnau Tenas, who faced challenges early on, redeemed himself with critical saves that kept Spain ahead. The victory gave Spain its second Olympic gold in men’s soccer, their first since 1992, and added to their silver finish at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
