Kuwait is taking a significant step to reduce its reliance on expatriate workers within its municipal government. Dr. Noura Al-Mishaan, Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs, has directed the termination of expatriate employees in the municipality.

Targeting Key Roles

This directive affects expatriates holding university degrees in various executive roles, including legal, engineering, accounting, and administrative positions. The decision was communicated to the Director General of the Municipality, Saud Al-Dubous, who is tasked with implementing the terminations and providing a report to the minister within three working days.

Focus on Legal Advisors

The directive also calls for a ministerial decision to end the services of expatriate legal advisors in the legal department and other affiliated departments. This action is also expected to be completed within three working days.

Supporting National Workforce

Minister Al-Mishaan emphasized that this move is part of a broader strategy to support and utilize Kuwait's national workforce. She assured that there are enough qualified nationals to fill these roles effectively, reflecting the government's commitment to prioritizing local talent over expatriate labor.
