Tragic Train Station Bombing in Quetta: At Least 24 Dead

At least 24 people lost their lives, and over 40 were injured following a devastating bomb explosion at a railway station in Quetta, southwestern Pakistan, on Saturday.

The incident, described by officials as a suicide bombing, has added to the region's history of violence.

Inspector General of Police for Balochistan, Mouzzam Jah Ansari, stated that the attack specifically targeted army personnel from the Infantry School, with many of the injured now in critical condition. “So far, 44 injured people have been brought to the civil hospital,” Dr. Wasim Baig, a spokesperson for the hospital, confirmed to Reuters.

Senior Superintendent of Police Operations, Muhammad Baloch, indicated that investigations are underway to uncover more details about the blast. "The explosion occurred inside the railway station as the Peshawar-bound express was preparing to depart," Baloch explained.

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist organization, has claimed responsibility for the assault. The BLA has been involved in a decades-long insurgency in Balochistan, fighting for the secession of the province known for its natural resources and home to major China-led infrastructure projects, including a port and a lucrative mine.

This attack follows the widespread violence in August that left at least 73 dead in Balochistan. The province witnessed a series of attacks on police stations, railways, and highways, marking some of the most significant acts of insurgency in recent years.
