Qatar Central Bank Unveiled World Cup-Themed Currency

The Qatar Central Bank 9 November 2022 released a 22 Qatari Riyal commemorative banknote for the World Cup.

The commemorative "22 Qatari Riyal" banknote, whose face value will remain unchanged at 22 riyals, can be purchased for QR 75, according to a spokesman of the Qatar Central Bank. Ten coins were also unveiled by the central bank on the same day.

Along with other ministries and ambassadors, the ceremony was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, Governor of the Qatar Central Bank, and Mr. Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA.

The release of commemorative banknotes for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, according to H.E. Sheikh Saoud Al Thani, represents a fundamental contribution from the banking sector to the success of this historic event, the first of its kind in the Middle East and the Arab region. It also constitutes a source of pride for all of us and an affirmation of the unity and integration of the various entities in the public, and private sectors in the State.

The World Cup trophy and the Qatar 2022 official logo are displayed on the banknote. As a representation of the stadiums that will host the World Cup's opening and closing matches, respectively, it also features an image of Lusail Stadium on one side and Al Bayt Stadium on the other.

In addition, the letter features the Zubara Fort, the Qatari flag, the city skyline, a dhow, and other images.

Additionally, the Central Bank stated that the World Cup's official organizers will work with them to coordinate the release of the official commemorative notes.
