Ooredoo Diamond League Kicks Off Today in Doha

The Supreme Organizing Committee of Ooredoo Doha 2022 held a press conference on Wednesday, May 11, at the headquarters of the Qatar Olympic Committee, in order to reveal the latest preparations and arrangements for hosting the first round of the Diamond League Athletics for the current year, which will be held on Friday, May 13, at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium in  Qatar Sports Club, with the wide participation of athletics legends, medalists of the last Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan 2020, who will compete in 13 races and competitions to break records and continue achieving more achievements.

The conference included a review of the names of the most prominent participants in the Doha Diamond Round, Olympians and world champions who will compete, starting at 6:30 pm on Friday, in 13 races and competitions for the men and women categories, including sprint races in. 200m and 400m hurdles, as well as men's and women's 800m, 1500m, 3000m, pole vault, men's high jump, and women's shot put, on the field and track of Qatar Sports Club, which will be the focus of attention of the world and fans and lovers of the game.

The Doha round receives every year large participation of stars in athletics, amid unprecedented international and local media coverage, due to the great facilities provided by the organizing committee of the tournament and its constant keenness to attract more world and Olympic champions to come to Doha.

The 2022 Diamond League calendar sees competitions held in 14 cities on four different continents, and athletes will compete for championship points in 13 rounds between this May and next September, while the best among them will compete in the two-day final in Zurich.

The season opens in Doha next Friday, May 13, before the English Birmingham, which will host the Commonwealth Games between July 28 and August 8, and he will also visit the American city of Eugene, host of the 2022 World Championships in Athletics.

The league will then move to Rabat, Morocco, on June 5, before returning to Europe, where the competitions will be held in Rome, Oslo, Paris, and Stockholm. After that, the Diamond League returns to China for the first time since 2019 in Shanghai on July 30.

In August, the competitions will be held in Monaco and Lausanne, before concluding in Brussels on September 2 and then the final in Zurich on September 7 and 8.

It is worth noting that this round of the Diamond League, hosted by Doha, is witnessing a participation record of 170 male and female athletes from 83 countries.

Among the participating players:

French brothers Renault and Valentin Lavigne in the pole vault, Qatari Olympic and World Champion Moataz Barshim and Italian Gian Marco Tampere in the high jump competition

In addition to the Qataris, Abdulrahman Samba in the 400m hurdles, Femi Ugandan in the 200m race, Abu Bakr Haider and Musab Adam in the 1500m race.
