Nearly 2,500 Filipinos Sent to Kuwait After Labor Ban Lifted

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that 2,456 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been deployed to Kuwait since the country reopened its labor market to Filipinos in June 2024. This marked the end of a year-long suspension of visa issuance for Filipino workers that started in May 2023.  

The recent deployment includes 125 skilled workers, 2,331 domestic workers, and 45 direct hires employed by members of the Kuwaiti Royal Family. These OFWs were sent in 23 separate batches.

Opportunities for Skilled and Domestic Workers  

In June, the DMW announced that Kuwait was once again accepting professional, skilled, semi-skilled, and experienced domestic workers. This move aimed to address labor shortages in Kuwait while providing employment opportunities for Filipinos.  

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac highlighted the importance of professionalism among OFWs, urging them to respect Kuwaiti laws and regulations. "Your actions reflect not only on yourselves but also on the Philippines," he said.

Welfare and Protection Assurance  

The DMW assured OFWs that their rights remain a priority. Cacdac encouraged workers to seek assistance from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Kuwait if they encounter issues such as maltreatment or abuse. "Immediate help is available for workers in distress," he added.
