National Program to Convert Waste into Energy on World Hygiene Day

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality, stated that the State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, is keen on the participation of the countries of the world in the celebration of World Hygiene Day, which falls on September 17, to emphasize the Ministry’s great interest in the issue of public hygiene as a basic pillar towards sustainable development.

His Excellency said that the Ministry of Municipality is working to provide hygiene services in all parts of the country, in accordance with the highest international standards and specifications, explaining that public cleanliness is not limited to the efforts and duties of specific authorities in the country, but rather it is a daily behavior that everyone should abide by, as it is everyone's responsibility, and maintaining It has a religious duty and a shared responsibility among all institutions and members of society.

He said that the ministry is keen to issue, activate and implement various laws and legislations that contribute to achieving the ministry's objectives represented in the issue of public hygiene and waste recycling.

Especially with regard to waste collection and the proper and safe disposal of waste in accordance with the highest international standards.

He added: During the last period, two ministerial decrees were issued, one of them regarding solid waste sorting, obligating all institutions and concerned authorities to sort waste from the source, and it will be implemented at the beginning of next month.

The second decree relates to setting controls for the use of plastic bags and prohibiting the use of single-use bags because of their negative impact on the environment, within the framework of Qatar's efforts to preserve the environment and its safety and achieve sustainable development.

At the beginning of this year, the Ministry launched a campaign (zero waste), with the aim of developing a methodology of thinking about waste management, encouraging investment in the field of recycling, and supporting community participation in this field, to improve the quality of living and sustainable development, in order to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030.

For his part, Mr. Moqbel Mazhour Al-Shammari, Director of the Public Hygiene Department at the Ministry, said that World Hygiene Day is one of the most important events at the global level, which emphasizes the importance of cooperation and concerted efforts of all to maintain public cleanliness and environmental health, whether at the global or national level.

He added that countries around the world are keen to celebrate World Hygiene Day on the third Saturday of September every year, With the aim of enhancing the value and importance of cleanliness and raising awareness among all members and institutions of society, in order to reduce waste and reduce sources of pollution whose health and environmental damages are caused to everyone without exception.

It is noteworthy that the Department of General Hygiene in the Public Services Affairs Sector of the Ministry is working to implement many plans, programs, and campaigns to advance the level of hygiene in the State of Qatar, the most prominent of which is the program of sorting waste from the source.
