Kuwait Limits Worker Housing to 4 People Per Room

Kuwait's Public Authority of Manpower (PAM) has rolled out new housing regulations designed to improve the living conditions of workers and reduce overcrowding in worker accommodations. The new guidelines are a step toward creating more comfortable and safer housing environments for those working in the country’s various sectors.

The key update: employers are now required to house no more than four workers per room. This regulation ensures that workers have adequate space, promoting better living standards for everyone. The new rules are part of Kuwait's broader efforts to enhance the welfare of workers and prevent overcrowded living situations that can lead to safety and health concerns.

Housing Allowance for Employers Who Fail to Comply

If employers fail to meet these new housing requirements, they’ll need to provide workers with housing allowances. Workers earning the minimum wage will receive an allowance equal to 25% of their salary, while workers earning above the minimum wage will get 15%. This ensures that all workers, regardless of their salary, can access quality housing options.

Approval Needed for Worker Housing

In addition to the room occupancy limits, PAM has also introduced an approval process for employers. Before housing workers, employers must secure approval from the relevant authorities to confirm that the accommodations meet the required standards. This extra step ensures that the housing provided is safe and suitable for workers to live in.

These new regulations mark a significant move by the government to improve worker welfare in Kuwait. By ensuring more space and better living conditions, the government hopes to create a safer and more comfortable environment for workers, while also promoting overall well-being across the workforce.
