Kuwait Launches Evening Shifts To Improve Gov Services

Starting Sunday, January 5, Kuwait has implemented an evening shift system for select ministries and government agencies. This move, guided by the Civil Service Commission (CSC), involves organizational units that submitted their plans, along with the names and numbers of employees selected for evening work, in compliance with the CSC’s guidelines.

Why The Evening Shift?

The evening shift system aligns with a Cabinet decision aimed at improving the government sector’s work environment. This initiative is designed to provide citizens and residents with more flexibility in completing their transactions. By making services available during additional hours, the government aims to simplify procedures and better accommodate the public’s needs. Moreover, this change is expected to boost employee productivity and create a more dynamic workflow in the public sector.

How It Works

According to informed sources, ministries, authorities, and institutions had already determined the employees designated for evening shifts well in advance. Most government agencies operating on a shift system have only assigned a small number of organizational units and employees for evening shifts. This approach contrasts with agencies that do not typically rely on shift-based work schedules.

The Civil Service Commission has set clear guidelines for evening work:

  • Evening work hours are capped at a maximum of 4.5 hours per day.

  • Work will not begin before 3:30 PM.

  • Flexible working hours will not apply to employees working evening shifts.

What This Means For Citizens And Residents

With evening shifts now in place, citizens and residents can expect greater convenience when accessing government services. By extending service hours, this initiative accommodates those who may face challenges visiting ministries and agencies during traditional morning hours.

Boosting Productivity And Service Quality

This step is not just about convenience for the public. It’s also a strategic move to enhance productivity among government employees by diversifying work hours and introducing a new dynamic to the workday. The added flexibility for the public and increased efficiency in services are key outcomes the government aims to achieve through this system.

As Kuwait rolls out this evening shift system, it sets a precedent for innovative changes in the public sector, paving the way for improved services and a more citizen-centric approach.
