Kuwait Expands List of Public Places for Barbecuing

The Director General of Kuwait Municipality, Saud Al-Dabbous, has issued an administrative decision to regulate barbecuing in public areas, including squares, waterfronts, and public lands. The decision aims to ensure the responsible use of designated spaces for barbecuing activities.

Permitted Locations and Times

According to the decision, barbecuing will be permitted from November 1 to March 31 of each year, between 12 noon and 4:00 PM, at specified beaches controlled by the Tourism Enterprises Company (TEC). These locations include beaches behind Meghana Restaurant, Burger King and Pizza Hut restaurants, and Villa Fayrouz Restaurant. Additionally, Egaila Beach and Al-Khairan Park will allow barbecuing for members only during designated times set by TEC.

Guidelines for Responsible Barbecuing

The decision outlines eight key guidelines to ensure responsible barbecuing practices. These include using environmentally friendly materials, restricting barbecuing to designated tiled areas, maintaining a minimum height for the stove, and ensuring proper waste disposal in designated containers provided by TEC.

Enforcement and Oversight

Municipal employees with judicial police status will be responsible for monitoring and enforcing the regulations, with a focus on preventing violations that could harm public cleanliness and the environment. The municipality reserves the right to amend the regulations and designated areas for barbecuing as needed to promote public interest and safety.

Awareness Campaigns and Legal Measures

Authorities supervising the designated sites for barbecuing will conduct awareness campaigns for citizens and residents, educating them on the regulations and responsible practices. Legal measures will be taken to control violations, with reports submitted to the competent authority as per relevant laws and regulations governing environmental protection and public hygiene.
