Kuwait Announces Ramadan 2025 Hours for Government Workers

Kuwait has announced the official working hours for government employees during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, offering a flexible approach to accommodate the fasting month.

Issam Al Rubaian, Head of the Kuwaiti Civil Service Commission, issued a circular outlining the working hours for both morning and evening shifts. Ramadan is expected to start on March 1, and the new schedule aims to support government employees observing the fast.

Flexible Morning Shifts

Government agencies are encouraged to adopt a flexible working system, allowing employees to start work anytime between 8:30 am and 10:30 am. Regardless of the start time, employees are required to complete a four-and-a-half-hour shift.

The commission has given government agencies the option to choose from five specific start and end times, set a unified work schedule, or let employees select their preferred time slot.

Evening Shifts and Special Allowances

For evening shifts, the working hours are also set at four and a half hours. The evening shift cannot start before 6:45 pm and includes grace periods for male and female employees. Men are granted a 15-minute grace period, while women have two grace periods of 15 minutes each.

Employees working evening shifts are exempted from using fingerprint systems to prove their presence at work during Ramadan. Instead, only attendance and departure fingerprints are required, according to Al Anba newspaper.

For morning shift employees, the commission has set fingerprinting to prove attendance two hours after their arrival.

Ramadan in Kuwait

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food and drink. The holy month is a time of heightened spiritual reflection, prayer, and family gatherings.

By implementing a flexible work schedule, Kuwait aims to support its government employees in balancing their professional duties with the spiritual and physical demands of Ramadan.
