High Temperatures Lead to Scheduled Power Outages in Kuwait

The scorching temperatures currently gripping Kuwait have significantly impacted the operations of the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy. As a result, the ministry has implemented scheduled power outages in parts of five residential areas: Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential, West Abdullah Al-Mubarak, Rumaithiya, Salwa, and Bidaa. According to ministry sources, this decision aims to maintain the stability of the electrical system and manage the surge in electricity demand during peak hours, which fall between 11 am and 5 pm.

Emergency Power Cuts Due to Maintenance Work

In addition to the scheduled outages, the ministry has announced potential further power cuts. These could occur due to emergency maintenance work on certain electricity generation units, particularly as the power grid struggles under the strain of rising demand. The ministry urged residents to reduce electricity consumption, especially during peak hours, to ease the burden on the electrical system. On Wednesday, at 3 pm, the electrical load reached a critical level of 17,100 megawatts, prompting the ministry to act.

Importance of Energy Conservation

The ministry has emphasized the need for continued energy conservation efforts. Residents are encouraged to reduce their electricity usage, particularly during the afternoon, when the system is under the greatest stress. Conservation is seen as vital for avoiding further disruptions.
