Kuwait Records Minor Earthquake and Aftershock in Northeast

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck western Iran early Thursday morning, and its tremors were felt by many residents across Kuwait. According to the Kuwait National Seismic Network, part of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, the earthquake occurred at 7:20 a.m. Kuwait time, with an epicenter located 273 kilometers from Kuwait City. The quake took place at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Following the main earthquake, two aftershocks were recorded in the same region. The first aftershock, with a magnitude of 5.2, occurred just three minutes later at 7:23 a.m., while the second aftershock, measuring 5.0, was detected at 8:38 a.m. Both aftershocks occurred at the same depth of 10 kilometers.

Many Kuwait residents reported feeling the tremors, with some describing a noticeable shaking in buildings and homes. While there have been no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries in Kuwait, the earthquake has certainly caught the attention of both citizens and authorities.

Kuwait’s National Seismic Network continues to monitor the situation closely, with experts urging the public to stay informed about any further seismic activity in the region.

The tremors are a reminder of the tectonic activity in the area, as the Middle East is prone to earthquakes due to its location along major fault lines. While earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the region, the experience of feeling such tremors in Kuwait is relatively rare.
