The MoPH Hosts the 4th Occupational Safety and Health Conference
The Fourth Occupational Safety and Health Conference was held on Tuesday by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) with the topic "Working Together for Occupational Safety and Health."
The Conference examined the most notable achievements made under the National Health Strategy (NHS) 2018-2022's goal of worker health and safety.
Experts and specialists from the Ministry of Labour (MoL), the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the Qatar Foundation, Qatar Energy, the International Labour Organization (ILO), Qatar Airways, and several other organizations were present.
The conference included a panel discussion on "The Priority of Health in All Policies: The World Cup as a Platform to Promote Health for Craftsmen and Manual Workers," as well as many workshops on occupational safety and health.
HE Dr. Saleh Ali Al Marri, assistant minister of Public Health for Health Affairs, stressed the relevance of the conference in his opening remarks, highlighting the importance of occupational safety and health in promoting the health and well-being of the workforce and increasing productivity.
"We are witnessing the conclusion of the second National Health Strategy in this year 2022," he said. "Through the population health approach, we worked to improve health services by meeting the health needs of various population groups." In addition to our great accomplishments, the third National Health Strategy is in the works, with the goal of attaining the needed progress toward Qatar's National Vision 2030."
"We strive to realize our ambitious plans, including those related to workers' health and well-being, through ongoing collaboration with all partners, especially since we have adopted the health in all policies approach as a strategic priority, involving and cooperating with all sectors in promoting the health and equity of all populations by incorporating health considerations and impacts into all decision-making and policy processes."
Dr. Asmaa Al Nuaymi, MoPH, NHS national lead for healthy and safe employees, reviewed some of the key achievements of the Health and Safety Workers Priority in the National Health Strategy 2018-2022, including the Integrated Healthcare Pathway for craftsmen and manual workers, the National Occupational Health Assessment Guidelines, and the Occupational Safety and Health Database, noting that these achievements were made in collaboration with all partners.
Dr. Asmaa Al Nuaimi congratulated all ministries, entities, and individuals who helped achieve these aims by putting in their best efforts to help Qatar achieve its goals. She emphasized the importance of maintaining support for the health strategy by promoting a preventative culture throughout the organization.
The MoI, the MEHE, the SC, Ashghal, the PHCC, Qatar Energy, and Qatar Airways were also honored at the conference for their continuing support of the National Health Strategy 2018-2022 by implementing various health initiatives to enhance the health and well-being of their employees.
