In an exhilarating match on Thursday in Tarouba, South Africa triumphed over Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup semifinals, winning by nine wickets. This victory marks South Africa's historic first appearance in a World Cup final.
Afghanistan's Struggles
Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bat first. However, their innings quickly fell apart as South African bowlers wreaked havoc. Marco Jansen kicked off the onslaught by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck in the first over. Jansen continued his impressive spell by taking Gulbadin Naib's wicket in the third over.
Kagiso Rabada further dismantled Afghanistan's batting lineup with two quick wickets in the fourth over. By the end of the fifth over, Afghanistan was reeling at 21/5. Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi joined the action, wrapping up the Afghan innings at a mere 56 runs, the lowest score ever in a T20 World Cup semifinal.
South Africa's Chase
Chasing a modest target of 57, South Africa made quick work of their innings. Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram led the charge, scoring 29 and 23 respectively. South Africa comfortably reached 60/1 in just 8.5 overs, securing their place in the final.
