Susan Sarandon Calls for Netanyahu's Arrest at US Congress
The award-winning actress joined the rally at the US Capitol ahead of Netanyahu's speech at the Congress.
Oscar and BAFTA-winning American actress Susan Sarandon joined the calls for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during her visit to the US Congress.
Sarandon joined thousands of protestors from various groups at Capitol Hill in Washington DC ahead of the Israeli prime minister's address to the US Congress.
The protestors called for an immediate ceasefire, they protested against Netanyahu's upcoming speech at the US Congress, and they called for the arrest of the Israeli prime minister.
The police launched a major security operation to seal off the US capitol from protestors before Netanyahu's speech.
The protestors were from the group Jewish Voice For Peace. Two speakers addressed the rally including Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein and Sarandon.
The demonstrations started on Tuesday, Jul. 23 when the protestors occupied the Cannon building. The police carried out arrests of 400 members of the peace group who were detained.
Various Democratic members of the US Congress have said that they will boycott Netanyahu's speech, including Vermont senator Bernie Sanders.
