His Family
He is the son of the 10th Ruler of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the half-brother of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who was the Emir of Kuwait before Sheikh Nawaf until his death in 2020.
He is married to Sharifa Sulaiman Al-Jasem and they have five children.
Sheikh Nawafa is one of the most senior members of the House of Sabah.
He Served in Various Government Roles Before Becoming Emir
Sheikh Nawaf was the governor of Hawally from 1962 until 1978.
He was Minister of Interior from 1978 to 1988. He has also served as Kuwait's Minister of Defense. He was also appointed as the Deputy Chief of the Kuwait National Guard in 1994.
He became Kuwait's first Deputy Prime Minister in 2003 and he was also reappointed as Minister of Interior.
He was the Crown Prince of Kuwait for 14 Years
A Royal Decree was issued in 2006, which made Sheikh Nawaf the Crown Prince of Kuwait. He remained the Crown Prince of Kuwait until 2020 when his brother and then Emir Sheikh Sabah passed away and Sheikh Nawaf was appointed as the Emir of Kuwait.
