In a significant moment for Kuwait, Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah took the oath as Crown Prince on Sunday in the presence of the country's Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
This follows an Amiri order issued by Sheikh Meshal recommending Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, the former Prime Minister, as Crown Prince, a day prior to the ceremony.
Expressing blessings and good wishes, the newly appointed Crown Prince stated, "Walk with God’s blessing, and His care and care will surround you,” during the swearing-in ceremony.
Per the Kuwaiti constitution, the appointment of the Crown Prince involves an Amiri order based on the Amir’s recommendation, followed by a pledge of allegiance from the National Assembly in a special session, requiring approval by the majority of council members.
Given the recent dissolution of Parliament and suspension of constitutional articles for up to four years, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled's appointment marks a pivotal moment amidst Kuwait's evolving political landscape.
Having previously served as Prime Minister from 2019 to 2022, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled brings a wealth of experience, including an extensive tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs, during which he played key diplomatic roles on the international stage.
Born in Kuwait in 1953, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled holds a BA in Political Science from Kuwait University and has served in various diplomatic capacities before assuming leadership roles in Kuwait's government.
The transition to Crown Prince underscores Kuwait's ongoing commitment to stability and development under new leadership amid broader constitutional changes.
