According to the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2022, Qatar has earned a new global distinction in terms of security. Out of 163 countries, Qatar was placed #1 in the Middle East & North Africa area and 23rd overall

Low crime rates and a strong level of security have earned the country a place among the world's top ten safest countries.

The newly issued Global Peace Index (GPI) 2022 indicated that Qatar has topped the most peaceful country index in the Arab area for the fourth time in a row.

The Gulf nation's adequate level of militarization, minimal domestic and international conflict, and excellent social safety and security have landed it in the 23rd slot, six places up from the previous year, with a high overall score of 1.530.

The country has been ranked 23, 29, 27, and 31 during the last four years.

The most peaceful country in the region

In the Safest and Most Societal Peaceful Countries category, Qatar was ranked first in the Arab world and ninth worldwide in the index, going six ranks up from 2021 and joining the world's top ten safest nations ahead of New Zealand, Ireland, Sweden, and Austria.

According to the survey, Qatar is the only country in the region to rank among the top 25 most peaceful countries in the world while also holding the title of the most peaceful country in the region for the previous 15 years.

This, according to the report, demonstrates the country's high levels of security and safety, political stability, low crime rate, and "independence" from terrorist activities and threats.

The indications of the Global Peace Index include societal safety and security, domestic and international conflict, and a country's militarized level.

Qatar declined in only three of the 23 GPI variables, including refugees and internally displaced persons, criminal perceptions, and weapons exports.

Furthermore, while the public's perception of crime has improved, overall crime rates remain low. Twelve indices were constant from the previous year, while eight improved.

The most significant improvement was in the measure of political instability, which increased by 28.6 percent, the second-best increase of any country in the world.

Results on a global scale

According to the 16th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI), the most generally used indicator of peace, the average level of world peace fell by 0.3 percent in 2021.

This is the ninth time in fourteen years that peace has declined, demonstrating that countries degrade significantly more quickly than they improve. A total of 90 countries have improved, while 71 have deteriorated.

Since 2008, Iceland has been the most peaceful country on the planet.
