Qatar Broke 10 Guinness World Records in 2022 Pt.1
Qatar has established and broken numerous Guinness World Records over the years, and it will establish a record as the first Middle Eastern nation to host a FIFA World Cup. And while we wait excitedly for the biggest football competition in the world to begin on November 20, let's have a look at the official GWR titles Qatar won this year.

Longest air-conditioned outdoor path
On October 17, 2022, the recently inaugurated Umm Al Seneem Park received a Guinness World Records title for having the "Longest Air-conditioned Outdoor Path." The 1,143-meter walking and running track in the public park, which was officially opened on November 1st, 2022, is the fifth project of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to be awarded a Guinness World Record. In order to encourage people to exercise and promote a healthy lifestyle for all, the track maintains a temperature of roughly 26 degrees Celsius.

Largest electric bus depot
The Lusail Bus Depot, which has space for up to 478 buses, was constructed by the Ministry of Transport and The Public Works Authority (Ashghal), earning them the title of "Largest Electric Bus Depot" from Guinness World Records. The electric bus depot employs 11,000 PV solar panels to generate 4 megawatts of power each day to serve its buildings, making it the only solar-powered bus depot in the Middle East. Additionally, it features a specialized space for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) e-buses, Qatar's newest form of public transportation. It is made up of 24 multipurpose buildings, including housing for the depot workers with a capacity for 1,400 people.

Largest plastic bottle word
In honor of the 2022 Qatar Sustainability Week, the Seashore Recycling and Sustainability Center launched a contest in which participants were to form the word "QATAR" using only recycled plastic water bottles. The participants adhered to precise instructions to construct the word made of 14,183 plastic bottles, for which they were awarded the Guinness World Record title of "Largest Plastic Bottle Word." On October 15, 2022, Qatar broke the previous record of 5,387 bottles set in 2021, setting a new record.

Most languages used in a reading relay
A reading relay was organized at the Museum of Islamic Art for October 12, 2022. (MIA). A unique aspect of this exercise was that each participant read at least one line from Antoine De Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince," in a different language than the preceding reader. This resulted in a total of 55 languages, which allowed MIA to break a previous Guinness World Record! The full reading took an hour and 19 minutes, and 177 readers, judges, and participated in the successful attempt.

Largest padel championship
Padel IN Qatar, through the Qatar Rail Open, now holds the Guinness World Record for the "Largest Padel Championship" after hosting the largest padel competition ever. The goal of the record, according to Padel IN, was to highlight the significant Padel population that exists in Doha. The event, which lasted seven days, featured 778 competitors all men, women, and juniors.

Fastest ascent of Everest and K2 with supplementary oxygen (female)
Sheikha Asma bint Thani Al Thani, a mountaineer from Qatar, has broken numerous records. She made history by becoming the first Arab to summit six of the world's 8000ers. Sheikha Asma set a new world record on July 21, 2022, for the "fastest female to ascend Everest and K2 with supplemental oxygen."
Mt. Everest and Mt. K2 were both scaled by Sheikha Asma in 56 days (May 27, 2022). (July 22, 2022). She hopes to accomplish the "Explorers Grand Slam" through her "Beyond Boundaries" journey, and she is just one summit away from doing so. She also hopes to inspire and demonstrate to others, especially women and young people, that anything is possible if you move forward with passion and conviction.
