Netflix launched its first original series from Kuwait “The Exchange,” on February 8.

The series is based on the true story of the first two women in Kuwait to enter the stock exchange market and prove themselves as talented traders back in 1987, three years before Saddam Hussein’s invasion of the country.

The two protagonists Farida (Rawan Mahdi)  and her cousin Munira (Mona Hussain), explore a patriarchal world in the stock exchange. Farida is a recent divorcee who needs to provide for her teenage daughter, and Munira is a clerk for Bank of Tomorrow’s trading division.

“The Exchange” was created and written by Nadia Ahmad, Anne Sobel and Adam Sobel; produced by Abdullah Boushahri; and directed by Jasem AlMuhanna (“The Cage”) and Karim El Shenawy (“Blood Oath”).
