Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore has joined the production team of "From Ground Zero," the Palestinian entry shortlisted for the 97th Academy Awards' Best International Film category, as an executive producer.

"From Ground Zero" is an anthology of 22 short films created by Palestinian filmmakers residing in Gaza. The collection encompasses various genres, including animation, documentary, and fiction, portraying the resilience and creativity of individuals amidst the ongoing conflict.

Moore, renowned for documentaries such as "Bowling for Columbine" and "Fahrenheit 9/11," expressed his admiration for the filmmakers' achievements.

"These Palestinian filmmakers have accomplished a cinematic miracle. They have made a brilliant film in the midst of what Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have now declared a genocide. The only weapons that Rashid and these 22 courageous Palestinian directors in Gaza have are their cameras and their creativity. No filmmaker, writer, or artist should ever have to tell the story of their own extermination. It's an honor to stand in solidarity with them and help share their stories with the world."

Producer Rashid Masharawi coordinated and funded the project.

"From Ground Zero" premiered at the 5th Amman International Film Festival on July 5, 2024, and had its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2024. The film is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on January 3, 2025.

The film's selection as Palestine's entry for the Best International Film at the upcoming Academy Awards marks a significant milestone, reflecting the global recognition of Palestinian cinema and the compelling narratives emerging from the region.
