The much-anticipated 'Meryal' waterpark by Qetaifan Projects will open to the public soon, months ahead of an estimated influx of tourists from all over the world.

It is likely to be one of the most anticipated sites in Lusail City's Qetaifan Island North.

The 85-meter-high 'Icon Tower' waterslide, which is said to be the world's largest, is one of the park's main attractions.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Qetaifan Projects' Managing Director Sheikh Nasser bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Head of Business Development Sheikh Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Hesham Sharaf, and the rest of the Qetaifan Projects team.

Sheikh Nasser explained that the name Meryal is derived from the Arabic language and is intended to emphasize the country's heritage and culture.

"It celebrates our culture and history, which we value, and includes a Qatari dialect phrase." In a statement, Nasser bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said, "We hope that the potential future of Qetifan Island North as a tourism refuge, and the waterpark as an entertainment and cultural icon, will resonate internationally."

"Qetaifan Island North's dream is soon to become a reality. The project began as a waterpark development to reflect our culture and history of oil and gas discovery."

The waterpark section features 36 slides, 12 of which are part of the Icon Tower, which according to Guinness World Records is the world's tallest waterslide.

A discovery game featuring a 3D display and augmented reality technology will be featured at the waterpark, taking visitors on a makes a significant back in time to learn more about and experience the history of oil and gas discovery in Qatar.

Sheikh Nasser also emphasized the waterpark's relevance to oil and gas discoveries.

"The waterpark's colors are rusty," he explained, "to give tourists an impression and feel of the oil and gas fields, but in the form of a waterpark."

"There is no doubt that nothing compares to Qatar's oil and gas history, which is actively contributing to our country's prosperity while also promoting and presenting our history and culture."
