Kuwait has successfully dismantled an international drug smuggling network accused of trafficking large quantities of illegal substances within the country. The network consisted of four individuals: two Arab nationals, a member of the stateless Bidoon community, and a Kuwaiti woman.

Major Drug Bust Unveiled

According to the Kuwaiti Interior Ministry, the group operated under instructions received from abroad. A police raid uncovered a significant haul of narcotics, including 16 kilograms of Shabu (methamphetamine) and 10,000 Tramadol pills. The drugs were cleverly concealed inside two fire extinguishers, an attempt to outwit security agencies.

The ministry emphasized its unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking, vowing to intensify efforts against such criminal activities.

A String of Recent Successes

This operation is part of Kuwait’s ongoing crackdown on drug smuggling. Over the past months, authorities have reported several significant seizures:

  • December: Nearly 1.8 million Captagon pills were intercepted at Shuwaikh Port, hidden in a furniture shipment. Authorities described it as a major blow to narcotics peddlers.
  • November: Anti-drug police seized 85 kilograms of Shabu linked to an Asian national working for an international drug ring.
  • August: An attempt to smuggle narcotics worth KD1 million ($3.2 million) was thwarted, with two Asian expatriates arrested.
