Kuwaitis are the happiest Arabs and the second-happiest people in the world, according to Steve Hanke, a renowned economist at Johns Hopkins University.
Kuwait was ranked first out of 157 countries, behind Switzerland, on the misery index, According to Al-Rai daily.

The Hanke yearly misery index is calculated by adding together unemployment, inflation, and bank lending rates and subtracting the change in real GDP per capita.
In his annual index, Hanke attributed the main reason for the happiness of Kuwaitis to low unemployment rates, which is the same factor for the happiness of the Swiss.
Thanks to the strong economic performance, Switzerland, Kuwait, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Niger, Thailand, Togo and Malta occupied the top ten positions as the happiest countries in the world in 2022.
