On Saturday, the Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Mutlaq Al-Otaibi stated that the ministry will issue a decision that aims to regulate the renewable energy sector in the upcoming days.
In a statement on Saturday, Kuwait's Energy Minister, Otaibi, revealed that the decision to allow purchasing renewable energy from third parties will be implemented. The initiative is expected to include all sectors in Kuwait, excluding the government and industrial sectors, which will be addressed at a later stage.
According to Otaibi, implementing regulations will serve as an incentive for citizens, particularly small investors, to establish companies focused on installing solar energy systems and associated equipment. The Ministry aims to achieve a minimum of 15 percent of Kuwait's electricity consumption from renewable energy sources by 2030, aligning with the directives of the political leadership.
Otaibi highlighted that the Ministry has conducted surveys and studies, examining the experiences of neighboring countries in purchasing renewable energy and reducing pollution caused by power stations that operate on fossil fuels.
The Ministry of Energy is studying proposals for sustainable energy projects, including on the islands of Failaka and Boubyan. These projects aim to diversify income sources and align with the Council of Ministers' vision for island development. The ministry is actively reviewing options to execute renewable ventures, such as the Shagaya project.
