Residents of Kuwait can apply for an Umrah visa electronically (E-Visa) by registering their biometric data, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced.

The fingerprint registration is currently applicable to all pilgrims coming from the United Kingdom, Tunisia, Kuwait, Malaysia, and Bangladesh. Pilgrims will have to use the Saudi Visa Bio app that allows visa applications, register fingerprints, and register biometric data.

The biometric registration includes face, eyes, and fingers of the hands, and submission of passport through the app.

Registration of the biometric data on the app is done through four steps: automatic reading of passport, determining the type of visa, taking a photo of the face, and taking fingerprints.

In February 2022, Saudi Arabia also released an electronic passport with a chip that stores the user’s biometrics for authentication purposes.
