The Ministry of Social Affairs announced on Monday that it has dissolved and liquidated 13 public benefit associations for failing to comply with legal regulations and not actively contributing to the community. This decision came after a thorough review of the associations, which revealed serious issues in their operations.

Why Were the Associations Dissolved?

The ministry’s decision to dissolve these associations stems from their lack of compliance with key laws and regulations. Specifically, they failed to hold regular general assemblies, submit necessary financial reports, and maintain transparency in their operations. This breach of accountability led the Ministry of Social Affairs to intervene and close down the associations in question.

These associations, which spanned various sectors such as culture, health, and social services, were also found to violate Article 27 of Law No. 24/1962. This law mandates that all public benefit associations must not only fulfill their legal obligations but also conduct activities that benefit the community at large.

A Long Process Before Action Was Taken

The ministry emphasized that the dissolved associations had ample time and opportunity to correct their actions. Official warnings were issued to the groups, urging them to address the issues and align with the regulations. Unfortunately, no meaningful steps were taken to resolve the violations, forcing the ministry to take action.

A Step Toward Better Governance

This move is part of the Ministry of Social Affairs' broader initiative to improve governance in the civil work sector. By holding organizations accountable, the ministry aims to ensure that associations actively contribute to the welfare of society and maintain transparency in their operations.

The ministry is committed to fostering effective civil society organizations that genuinely benefit the public. Its goal is to direct resources and efforts toward associations that fulfill their missions and contribute positively to Kuwait’s growth and development.

Moving Forward

With this decision, the Ministry of Social Affairs sends a clear message: it will not tolerate non-compliance or inactivity in the civil sector. The ministry will continue to oversee the performance of civil society organizations, ensuring they meet their obligations and deliver value to the community. The dissolution of these 13 associations marks a significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Kuwait’s civil society and ensure that public benefit organizations are held to the highest standards.
