Kuwait is nearing the end of its intense summer heat as the Al-Ojeiri Scientific Center announced that the Al-Kulaibin season will begin on Sunday, August 11. This season, lasting 13 days, marks the final phase of rising temperatures before a gradual shift to more moderate weather.
Known as the sixth house of summer for Bedouin Arabs and the seventh in the sun and moon calendar, Al-Kulaibin is a significant period in Kuwait's climate cycle.
During this time, the stormy winds typical of the summer months begin to calm, and the interior of the earth starts to cool. The Al-Ojeiri Scientific Center noted that the nights will gradually lengthen, with daylight hours decreasing as the season progresses.
As Kuwait experiences some of the highest temperatures in the world, residents have increasingly turned to thermal shading and insulation to combat the scorching heat. This practice, relatively unknown a decade ago, has now become a common solution for both vehicles and buildings.
Thermal shading involves applying a transparent adhesive to windows, which reflects sunlight and prevents rays from penetrating the interiors of cars, homes, and buildings. This method not only reduces the amount of heat entering a space but also helps maintain cooler temperatures indoors for longer periods.
With the end of summer in sight, Kuwaitis continue to adapt and innovate in the face of extreme weather, making the most of these protective measures as they await the cooler days ahead.
