The transgender Australian actor Zoe Terakes is featured in the movie "Talk to Me," which is presently playing in theatres in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
There are no explicit LGBTQ references in any of the movie’s scenes.
Terakes on Sunday criticised the move to ban the film in Kuwait, describing it as "dehumanising".
"Our film doesn't have queer themes," Terakes said in a statement posted on social media.
"I am a trans actor who happened to get the role. I'm not a theme. I'm a person," added Terakes, who identifies as non-binary and previously appeared in the acclaimed TV series Nine Perfect Strangers.
Terakes identifies as non-binary and trans-masculine and announced their gender-confirming surgery in 2022.
“Talk to Me” premiered at 2023 Sundance during the Midnight Selections lineup.
