The Kuwaiti Civil Service Commission has announced a three-day public holiday for Isra Wal Miraj, starting Thursday, January 30, and continuing through Saturday, February 1. This holiday will give residents an extended weekend to commemorate the occasion, which is a significant event in Islamic tradition.
What is Isra Wal Miraj?
Isra Wal Miraj, also known as the Night Journey or Shab-e-Miraj, celebrates Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) miraculous journey and ascension to the heavens. While the official date for the observance is Monday, January 27, the Kuwaiti Cabinet has decided to move the public holiday to Thursday, January 30, allowing residents to enjoy an extended weekend.
Government and Public Institutions Closed
During this holiday period, all government departments and public institutions in Kuwait will be closed. Regular operations will resume on Sunday, February 2. However, organizations that provide essential services, such as healthcare and security, will make arrangements to ensure continuous operations while accommodating their employees’ needs during the holiday.
A Balanced Approach to Observance
This adjustment reflects the government’s commitment to both honoring religious occasions and providing practical solutions for the convenience of its residents. The three-day break allows the public to celebrate Isra Wal Miraj while enjoying a well-deserved extended weekend.
