The Nobel Peace Prize 2023 has been awarded to the Iranian activist Narges Mohammadi for her fight for women's empowerment in Iran.

The UN Human Rights Office said that Mohammadi's award "highlights the courage and determination of Iranian women”.

Mohammadi is the deputy head of the Defenders of Human Rights Center, which is a non-governmental organisation run by Shirin Ebadi, the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. 

Narges Mohammadi is the 19th woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. 

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award Mohammadi the Nobel Peace Prize 2023 for "her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all".

The Iranian activist also received the Andrei Sakharov Prize in 2018.

Narges Mohammadi has become an inspiration for many Iranian women!
