Kuwaiti authorities have arrested members of an international cybercrime gang of Chinese nationality following a series of large-scale attacks on telecommunications towers and financial institutions. The Ministry of the Interior confirmed the arrests, highlighting the growing threat of cybercrime in the country.

Cyberattacks on Telecoms and Banks

The Cybercrime Combating Department launched an investigation after several telecommunications companies and banks reported attacks on their networks. Hackers attempted to steal customer information and funds, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.

According to a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, authorities traced the cybercriminals and swiftly moved to apprehend them.

How Authorities Tracked Down the Hackers

Police arrested a Chinese national in the Farwaniya area of Kuwait City. The suspect, who was working as a driver, was found in possession of multiple electronic devices linked to the cyberattacks.

Further investigations led authorities to the suspect’s residence, where they discovered advanced hacking tools used to carry out the attacks. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of a larger fraud network. Police subsequently identified and arrested additional gang members.

Cracking Down on Cybercrime

The Ministry of the Interior emphasized its commitment to strengthening cybersecurity and safeguarding institutions from digital threats. Officials also revealed that the arrested individuals had used falsified documents to forge their identities.

Authorities have reassured the public that efforts are underway to enhance cybersecurity measures, ensuring that citizens’ data and financial assets remain protected.

Rising Cybersecurity Threats in Kuwait

Cyberattacks have been on the rise in Kuwait. In September, the Health Ministry suffered a major cyberattack that disrupted hospital systems, impacted the Ministry of Health website, and took healthcare apps offline.

With cybercriminals continuously evolving their tactics, Kuwaiti authorities remain vigilant in combating digital threats and reinforcing the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure.
