This development came after the National Medical Commission (NMC) was granted the coveted World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) Recognition Status for a tenure of 10 years.
WFME is an international organization that works to improve the quality of medical education worldwide.

NMC is responsible for delivering quality medical education in the country.
All 706 existing medical colleges in India will become WFME accredited, while the new medical colleges being developed in the next ten years will be automatically WFME accredited.
This accreditation will increase the international recognition of Indian medical colleges and medical practitioners.
This development will also allow for academic collaborations and exchanges to promote improvement and innovation in medical education.
WFME's accreditation also emphasizes that Indian medical education adheres to global standards for medical education, which will make it an attractive destination for international students as well.
