The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has declared Sunday, 23rd August, an official paid holiday for all private-sector employees in the UAE to celebrate the coming Islamic New Year, Al Hijri 1442.

The reference date of the Islamic era was set as 622 Common Era (CE), the year of the emigration of Muhammad and his followers from Mecca to Medina, known as the Hijra. All religious duties, such as prayer, fasting in the month of Ramadan, and pilgrimage, and the dates of significant events, such as the celebration of holy nights and festivals, are calculated according to the Islamic calendar.

It will also be a 3-day weekend and will also take place From Thursday, October 21 to Saturday, October 23!
