His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will take oath as the new Emir of Kuwait in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

HH Sheikh Mishal was declared the new Emir of Kuwait on Saturday, Dec. 16, following the demise of his brother the late Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Emir of Kuwait Taking the Oath

The Emir of Kuwait has to take the constitutional oath to acquire constitutional powers. 

The Emir of Kuwait has to take the oath in front of the National Assembly. 

Appointing the Crown Prince of Kuwait

Also, the Emir of Kuwait has a year to appoint the Crown Prince of Kuwait who must be Mubarak Al-Kabeer’s descendants of the Al-Sabah Family.

The Crown Prince of Kuwait must be approved by a majority vote in the National Assembly. 

In case the Assembly elect the Emir's choice for Crown Prince, then the Emir has to propose three names.

The National Assembly will elect the Crown Prince from the Emir's proposed options.

Leaders Offering Condolences for Sheikh Nawaf's Demise

Middle Eastern leaders and regional and international envoys came to Kuwait to offer their condolences to HH Emir Sheikh Mishal.

The new Emir of Kuwait started receiving condolences from Kuwaiti citizens on Monday, Dec. 18 at the Bayan Palace. 

Condolences will also be accepted on Tuesday, Dec. 19.

The mourning period for the late Sheikh Nawaf will be extended for forty days in Kuwait
