FIFA's disciplinary committee suspended the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, on Saturday after the federation threatened to sue national team player Jenni Hermoso amid a kissing incident that happened at the women's World Cup.

The football governing body has announced a 90-day suspension from all national and international football-related engagements for Rubiales.

FIFA has issued two more directives, instructing Rubiales and the RFEF not to contact or attempt to reach out to Spanish player Jennifer Hermoso or those close to her.

Previously on Saturday, the RFEF had announced its intention to pursue legal measures against Hermoso and the FUTPRO union. This came after her statement that the kiss on the lips from Rubiales during the World Cup victory ceremony was not consensual.

Spain beat England 1-0 to win a first world title last Sunday in Sydney.

At an urgent RFEF assembly on Friday, Rubiales declared his refusal to step down and emphasized that the kiss had been consensual, a claim strongly refuted by Hermoso.

The Spanish women's football team has said that they will not play again under the current leadership of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). The team's union, FUTPRO, released a statement saying that the players were "united in their rejection of the current management" and that they would not return to the national team until Rubiales resigns.
