Dubai Streets Are Being Mapped for Self-driving Cars

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed that self-driving taxis will be trialed in the city by the end of 2022, bringing Dubai one step closer to achieving its goal of having self-driving cars on its roads.
This step requires digital mapping of Dubai's streets; thus, Dubai Municipality recently launched a mapping project using Google Maps-style vehicles to collect the necessary data and "high-resolution digital maps" for the vehicles’ AI computers.
These vehicles will be trialed at the end of the year but the RTA is aiming for an official launch targeting the end of 2023. Also, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai aims to achieve a larger goal of having 25% of driverless trips by the year 2030.
