City University Opens New University Campus
City University College in partnership with the University of Ulster inaugurated the new campus under the patronage of H.E. Jonathon Wilkes, UK Ambassador to Qatar.
The opening ceremony also included the graduation of the class of 2022, where the graduates were honored for their outstanding achievements, and the selected graduates were awarded Academic Excellence Awards.
The ceremony witnessed a live performance by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
The graduation ceremony included a speech from Dr. Khaled Al-Ali on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Mrs. Fatima Sultan Al-Kuwari, Head of Human Resources at Ooredoo Group, the Director of the University of Ulster and Executive Dean of City University College and student representatives.
The British Ambassador and Dr. Khaled Al-Ali expressed their pride in the partnership between City University College and the University of Ulster during the opening ceremony.
His Excellency Mr. Jonathan Wilkes, UK Ambassador to Qatar, delivered his speech at the opening in which he highlighted the success of the partnership between City University College and the University of Ulster(a British educational institution), and he said: “I always find joining in celebrations of successful projects, especially in the education sector, one of the most joyful and inspiring things about my work, We realize through the success of this and other projects that there is a growing demand for degrees from British universities across educational institutions located in Qatar. I am very happy because, in addition to the success of this partnership, I think it is a great encouragement to others as well to show what can be done and what can be accomplished.”
He added, "A memorandum of understanding was signed at the beginning of this year between the governments of the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom to strengthen relations on educational aspects. The British Minister of Education made a visit last June and I think it is very good news and is part of the positive context of what we are celebrating here today."
Dr. Khalid Al-Ali, Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education also praised the partnership between City University College and the University of Ulster and said: “This university is part of the private sector, and it does a great job by educating the people and the residents of this country.
Our role is to ensure the high quality of education and standards are comparable to those of Ulster University, always making sure that the programs available meet the needs of the country and are available to those seeking higher education qualifications.”
For his part, the Executive Dean of City University College, Dr. Faris Qureshi, expressed his pride in recognizing the alumni’s achievements: “This celebration is the culmination of the many hours of hard work and dedicated study that our students have faithfully provided.
He added: “We are proud of our partnership with the University of Ulster, which has an outstanding national and international reputation for being a leader in excellence and innovation and is ranked among the top 25 UK universities for world-leading research.
