At least 30 people were killed and over 80 were injured in a train crash in southern Pakistan on Sunday, August 6th, according to local officials.

A Hazara Express train with hundreds of passengers aboard crashed near Nawabshah city in Sindh, Pakistan's second-most-populous province.

The reason behind the train crash was unclear, but an investigation is underway.

"It could be a technical fault, or it could be an act of sabotage," said Pakistan’s railway minister, Khawaja Saad Rafique.

Faiz Muhammad Mari, a regional health official, said the death toll was likely to rise because of the severity of injuries. Officials said several children were among the injured.

Accidents occur frequently on the Pakistan's aging railway network, which has nearly 7,500 kilometres of track and carries more than 80 million passengers a year.
