The Ministry of Interior has declared a three-month amnesty for residency violators in Kuwait, permitting expatriates residing unlawfully to rectify their status by either paying fines and obtaining new residency or leaving the country without fines. The amnesty, effective from March 17th to June 17th, coincides with Ramadan and the ascension of HH Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Expats illegally residing in Kuwait can regularize their status by settling fines of KD 2 per day, up to a maximum of KD 600. Those unable to pay fines can depart from any exit point without penalties, but they must adhere to new procedures if they wish to return.

Failure to comply during the amnesty will result in deportation, barring re-entry to Kuwait, and potential legal penalties. Residents encountering administrative hurdles or legal proceedings can petition the residency affairs department for evaluation.

Though exact figures are undisclosed, tens of thousands of expats are estimated to be living unlawfully in Kuwait. The previous amnesty was granted in early 2021.

This initiative aims to address residency violations, offering individuals an opportunity to regularize their status or depart without financial penalties during the specified period.
