The Supreme Committee on Kuwaiti Citizenship announced on Thursday that it has revoked the citizenships of 3,043 individuals. The matter has been referred to the cabinet for further review.

The announcement came after a meeting chaired by First Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah. According to a statement from the Interior Ministry, the reasons behind the stripping of citizenships varied.

Out of the total number, 164 individuals had their citizenship revoked due to fraud related to Article One of the citizenship law. Another 16 individuals were stripped of their nationality under Article Seven, also due to fraudulent activities. However, the majority, 2,863 individuals, had their citizenship revoked due to holding dual nationalities. These individuals were found to possess the nationalities of 54 different countries.

This decision has sparked significant attention, as it represents a major enforcement of Kuwait's citizenship laws and underscores the country’s ongoing efforts to safeguard its national identity. The matter is now in the hands of the cabinet, which will determine any further actions.

Kuwait's stringent approach to citizenship laws highlights the nation's commitment to ensuring that individuals with Kuwaiti citizenship meet all legal requirements and do not pose any risk to the country's security or sovereignty.
