Asian and Saudi champions Al Hilal will begin their 2023 FIFA Club World Cup campaign against hosts Wydad as the draw for the premier FIFA club competition took place in Moroccan capital Rabat on Friday.
The annual tournament, which is being held in Morocco this year, is going to kick-off on February 1st with a match between Al-Ahly of Egypt and New Zealand outfit Auckland City.
The winner of this preliminary match will go on to face MLS side Seattle Sounder, who are taking part in the competition for the first time in their history, in the second round on February 4th.The other second round match between Al Hilal and African champions Wydad will take place on the same day.
European Champions Real Madrid and South American champions Flamengo of Brazil will enter the tournament from the semi-finals stage. Madrid facing the winner from Seattle and Ahly/Auckland City match on February 8th while Flamengo take on the winner from the Hilal vs Wydad match on February 7th.
Both the final match and the third place match will take place in Rabat on February 11th.
This is the third time that Morocco has hosted the Club World Cup, the first two times being in 2013 and 2014.
Al Hilal has participated in the tournament twice before as Asian champions in 2019 and 2021, finishing in 4th place on both occasions.
